The Little Red Lie

What it appears you see is a tricked out CB750F, hmm maybe a red color based on original silver and black USA options. Well, that is the implication. However, it is far more. The bike is all CB1100F '83 under the fibbing surface. And that is not a repaint. It is a Euro colored NOS totally factory paint set!  The suspension is CBR600F2 front end, and a F3 five inch rear wheel.

Big Daddy Super Sport

The 1100F engine was short lived in the USA, only one year '83 (3 years worldwide). But in one year in the USA it made a impression. It was basically as large as this DOHC family got. These motors were made in 750, 900, 1000, and 1100cc versions. The 900 and 1000 was also made as a shaft drive. It was also made in a CB1100R version race model. The CB1100F puts out 108HP stock. The motor on this bike is basically stock with addition of FCR KeiHin flatslides and a DYNA 2000 Digital Ignition System. Everything was wired into the original wire harness without making any alterations to the harness  itself.

Exhausting

The exhaust is made up from a MAC front header pipe that is mated to a Vintage NOS Yoshimura tip. I made a custom tig welded aluminum hanger and some custom machined aluminum diffuser rings. Accel coils were mated to the digital ignition system. Another custom aluminum bracket was made to hold the digital ignition box just behind the carbs

Steering

The original CB1100F triple trees were used by machining the clamps 2mm larger to accommodate the 41mm F2 front forks. This allowed to keep the original gauge and ignition switch set-up. The handlebar clamp was simplified and the fuse box cowling typically found there was removed. A remote style brake master cylinder, and F2-F3 switch controls were used and wired in just like original switches. The headlight is a 8 1/2 inch found on a '83 GS750E. Black GP Cafe bars, Pro grips, and Ken sean mirrors completes the front.

Suspension

The front forks were re-springed and re-valved to carry the extra weight of the chassis. The front fender for a CBR600F2 is brutally ugly for this sort of look. I opted to use instead a VF1000R '85-'86 front fender and made custom mounting to fit the fender and lock down the braided brake lines. This fender was originally going to match the red, but after seeing it in flat black it was a done deal. A cbr clutch perch was added too so the levers would be easy to replace if needed and plenty of custom ones available on the market. If you look close you will see I opted for a set of chrome levers with skulls on the ends. Yes I am no fan of chrome, but I am a sucker for skulls.

Driven

The rear swingarm is stock CB1100F. It was customized to accept eye to eye shock design and the non torque link style rear caliper from the F3. Eye to eye shocks are far easier to get and with more options for length than the factory eye to clevis type. Ohlins shocks were added. The rear tire size is a 180/55-17. The bike handles great with this set-up. I tried to keep just enough of the stock look to make the bike recognisable. This is one of the best designs of any manufacturer at the time so why mess too much with a good thing.
